An Asian Keepsake

We weren't in Korea long before I told John I'd like to get a piece of Korean furniture to have as a sort of souvenir. So, we saved up for it and last weekend we went out to a big antique furniture warehouse/store called Kojeon to see if we could find anything we liked! Turns out I'm not a very big fan of Korean furniture... it's just a little too Asian, leaning toward Gothic in style... But, I fell in love with the pieces from the area of Tibet.

We had a set budget and a "we will not go over this amount no matter what" limit for our shopping and sadly, my favorite piece was $250 over that amount. So, I strolled around the shop and finally told John that I'd rather leave there empty handed than with a very expensive piece of furniture that I settled for because the one I really loved was too much... We were ready to leave the store and try another place to see if we had better luck when John decided to see just how much he could talk the guy down.... Turns out we our favorite piece for $15 LESS than our set limit!

Here is a picture of part of the store

Here are some pictures of some of the furniture we saw

An antique Korean bed... they sleep on this with mats and blankets

A crazy, fancy bed from some other Asian country, not Korean though as far as I know...

I love these little chests with all he drawers.
This one was 1,600,000 won, or about $1400..

Not sure what this is, but my best guess is it is some kind of old school high chair!
Anyone out there have any ideas as to what this is??

And finally, the piece we bought already
in our entry way at our apartment, complete with my diaper bag on top of it! :)
This is a clothes chest/dresser of some sort that is from a region that starts with a "C" that
I can't remember that is near Tibet. The chest is over 100 years old.
This picture just does not do it justice in my opinion...

IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm not a big fan of most Asian furniture either...which is why I didn't add that to my "things to buy in Korea" list. I LOVE the piece you found though. What a great treasure.
