I borrowed my moms camera for a few days and decided to take a quick video before I returned it. This was taken one morning when we were snowed in and couldn't go to school (hence the fact that just about EVERY toy we own is on the floor). It isn't anything special, but it's just Caden's sweet voice which is special to me! :D

Toddler Bed
It's been just over a week since we made the big transition from a crib to a toddler bed. I was so worried Caden would start taking shorter naps or get out of his bed, but so far it hasn't been any different than the crib at all. The night we moved him over I rushed out to Lowes at bedtime to buy some wind chimes to hang on his door... my fear being he would get out of bed and we wouldn't hear him roaming around the house at night. We told Caden the rules and he has followed them completely. We have been blessed with a very easy transition at our house.
A few days before the move we bought a nightlight that changes from a moon (at night) to a sun in the morning (for a set time you program). We wouldn't come get him out of his crib until the sun came out. Caden caught on very quickly and I think that has been a huge help in keeping him in his bed now that we've moved to the toddler bed. He sometimes wakes up early and will just play in his bed with his animals until the sun turns yellow, then he sits on his knees and yells, "It's yellow! It's time to wake up!" and we come get him out of the bed. And his naps haven't changed at all. He's still napping about 3 hours (give or take 30 minutes) every day.
He loves his bed. Of course the first thing he did was jump on it and we quickly intervened and told him that was not allowed. We haven't had any more issues yet, but we are only one week in... He seems to respect the privilege of having a "big boy bed." We have taught him that after he wakes up (both morning and after his nap) we make the bed up. He LOVES to make it up and wants to do it all by himself. He will even crawl back in and tuck the blanket down all around the sides.
We ordered the crib for our little girl two weeks ago and ordered rails for his toddler bed to convert to a full size bed. When her crib arrives we will change him to an even bigger "big boy bed" and give her the crib mattress. I'm looking forward to finally decorating his room. We painted when we moved in, but it turned out too dark and so we are going to redo it, order some bedding and get some curtains/decorations to really make his room special.
Here are a few pictures of Caden's last time in his crib and his first night in his big boy bed:

Conversations
I wish I had a transcript for the last 20 minutes I spent with Caden. Not that he said anything all that funny (well, it's all funny to me but I'm his mom), but it would have been a great summary for really showing what he is "in" to these days and just the kinds of conversations we have now that he talks all the time. So, that prompted me to write a post about some of the things Caden talks about now....
Today, I picked Caden up from school, loaded him in the car and we headed home. He quickly found his "boy wonder." Uncle Josh gave him a Fisher Price Imaginext Bat Mobile for Christmas that came with lots of characters including Robin which Caden refers to as Boy Wonder. I love watching Caden play with characters because he has really gotten into imaginative play lately and he will have conversations with them, make up voices for them, and make them do things like fly or eat/drink. It's just too cute. Today Boy Wonder was crying because he wanted his motorcycle. I told Caden to show Boy Wonder the farm/barn we were passing and 'Boy Wonder' said, "Oh Look! I see it!" (all in a very funny high pitched voice).
One of Caden's other favorite characters is affectionately known as "House Mater." For Christmas John bought Caden a toy that has a red, white, and blue Mater truck (as in Tow Mater from the movie "Cars") that has a trick track with a little storage compartment that Caden thinks is Mater's house, hence the name House Mater. Last week Nonnie bought Caden a pair of jammies that have House Mater on them. Yesterday Caden took his House Mater car and showed him his House Mater jammies. Then in his cute high pitched voice he had a conversation with Mater that went like this, "House Mater that's you. Oh! I see it, that's me."
And then there are the Toy Story characters. I sat and watched/listened to the movie with Caden last week when I was feeling under the weather and although it is a favorite movie I think I will be limiting it's play time in our house now... the words "stupid" and "idiot" are used way to frequently in my opinion and those are not words I want my 2.5 year old saying. Wish I could get an edited version of it, lol. Caden recently found a Panama Jack hat that used to belong to Uncle Carl. He puts that hat on and says, "I'm Woody!" Oh, and he often walks around saying "Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!" John and Caden stumbled across a toy Buzz at Walmart last week and Caden talks about that doll all the time. He keeps saying that he will get the "big Buzz Lightyear doll" for his birthday.
Which reminds me... on the way home he started talking about Stephen's red motorcycle (a friends of Caden's has a ride on motorcycle that is red). I joined in the conversation about Stephen's motorcycle and Caden said, "No, it's MY red motorcycle for Christmas." I think he has this whole birthday/Christmas thing figured out now, lol. Two days ago Caden wanted something, I can't remember what it was now, and he started talking about Nonnie getting it for him as a present. So, he has the whole "grandparent" thing figured out now, too. :D
This one isn't as funny but it makes me proud. Caden is really learning his opposites now. We talk about opposites all the time. I will ask him if something is quiet or loud or if it is soft or hard. One recent thing I started doing in the car is talking about the weather. I ask lots of opposite questions and Caden always gets them right! I'll ask if it's sunny or cloudy, wet/rainy or dry, hot or cold. He loves talking about the weather now.
It's so much fun having conversations with Caden now. At the dinner table last night we sat and talked with him for the longest time, asking questions about things he did that day. It's often very funny to hear how Caden remembers an activity/event. But, along with all the conversations we've also been working with Caden on waiting his turn to talk and not interrupting Mommy and Daddy. We've made some decent progress in this goal. Last night Caden started to interrupt and tell a story about a bicycle. John told him to wait his turn because Mommy and Daddy were talking. John and I finished our conversation (at least 1 solid minute if not more) and as soon as we were finished we praised Caden for waiting and he picked right back up where he left off with the story about a bicycle. He was so precious just sitting there quietly entertaining himself and waiting for his turn to talk. Sometimes we will forget to tell him it is his turn and when we stop talking Caden will say, "It's my turn to talk now!" :D

Recent Pictures
This last week has been a busy one at our house! I realized that by 25 weeks in my pregnancy with Caden I was assembling his nursery furniture in his already painted nursery.... I have yet to even pick out furniture for baby girl and if I order it now I'll be lucky if it gets here before she arrives! So, needless to say, I went into panic mode! John had to work drill this weekend so my mom, Caden, and I headed over to Florence, AL on Saturday to look at a baby store, visit the Children's Museum, and eat lunch at one of my all time favorite places!
Caden loved the museum! Here are a few pictures :
I'm one day shy of 25 weeks pregnant in this picture and Caden is putting on high heel princess shoes, haha!

After our little road trip GDaddy came over to help Nonnie paint the nursery! Here is a picture of Caden getting in a few minutes of snuggle time with GDaddy and Nonnie before they started painting. Notice the Buzz Lightyear jammies... a favorite item and gift from Grammy! Oh... and the paci... well that is a battle we've decided NOT to fight right now. We have said from day one we'd take it away on the 2nd birthday and it just didnt' seem like it was time at that point. However, Caden is only allowed to have them in his crib BUT on this particular evening Caden found them in our travel bag while G-Daddy was babysitting.... just wasn't worth the fight when he'd only had a 55 minute nap in the car ride on the way home.... :D
