Caden Turns One

I can't believe it has been a year already. I was sitting in Sunday School, watching a video series on parenting (Shepherding a Child's Heart) when I glanced at the clock and realized that by Huntsville, AL time, my sweet baby boy was officially one year old.

I have day dreamed a lot recently, trying to remember all the little details about the day Caden was born, the emotions I felt, how incredibly wonderful he was... trying to remember it all so that I never forget. My favorite part of that whole day was when John and I, along with my L&D nurse and dear friend Laura Beth, crowded around Caden and read Psalm 91 to him and prayed for the wonderful life that lays ahead of him.

Caden is such a wonderful and happy little boy. He makes us smile and laugh often with his spirited little personality and his funny little 'quirks.' We love the noises and faces he makes. He "sings" when John plays the guitar or when he hears music, he can dance, and wave, he's starting to do some sign language, he is walking, throwing balls, pushing things around the house, or carrying things around the house, making a mess for mom to clean up and just all around keeping us busy! I love to watch him learn and explore. When he learns something new he is so proud and just smiles at us and does it over and over again. He is such a joy.

On his actual birthday (July 5th) we went to the zoo. Here are some pictures. Below is our KFC picnic in the parking lot and a close-up of "Chicken Nuggets" Korean style from KFC....

Two days later we threw a little cow-themed birthday party for him.

The decorations

The other babies and our attempt at a group picture

Eating Watermelon and Pizza

Blowing out the candles

Opening gifts

Caden's little Korean outfit (hanbok I believe is how you spell it)

Doing the Toljabee, which is a traditional first birthday game where the baby is presented with different items representing different things to "predict" his future. We a combination of the more traditional item (spool of thread, money, pencil) and our own.

ball: athlete
spool of thread: long life
pencil: scholar
money: wealthy
cd: musician
What did he chose???....

the ball AND spool of thread (note: they are both round... Surprised??)

The aftermath...
Stay tuned for the Birthday Cake pictures...but there is a "preview" in the header of our page....

Helping Daddy put together his new toy from Nonnie (we think we finally picked a name for her!! )
