First, I forgot that Caden knows sign language for the word, "Up!" We use it to show him how he can tell us he wants out of the crib and high chair. He does it in his car seat sometimes, too! :)
Second, today I think he is trying to say a new word! He has this little toy cell phone John got him. Yesterday, I picked it up and talked in to it....but instead of just "hello!" I had a conversation with the little plastic phone. Caden was intrigued. He was bending down looking at the phone while I was "on" it and after that he became obsessed with that phone and carries it around, putting it up to his forehead and saying his own little version of, "hello." It is hilarious! The funniest part, of course, is that the phone goes to his forehead instead of his ear! And his hello-sounding word really sounds very accurate! I think we may have a new word on our hands...time will tell! Oh, and excuse the ginormous diaper in the video. I had him in a size-to-big-diaper and it's sagging! :)
I'll link a video to the bottom of the blog of him talking on his phone! Or you can click our YouTube Video link on the side of the page to see several other new videos I put up last night. One of them is Caden signing "more" when he means to clap...he gets confused sometimes! :) And then the there is one with him actually clapping when I sing the "If You're Happy and You Know It" song (with NO cues from me to clap or sign...he does them all strictly by word association now).
There is also a video of our new activity: Room Time. I've mentioned before that I'm a Babywise Mom... We have been doing Play Pen Time everyday since he was probably 4 months old. Now that he is more mobile, the playpen time doesn't last as long...we still do it, but only for maybe 15 minutes instead of the 30+ it used to be. Now, he does extended playtime alone in his bedroom. I took some spy video of him playing in there. It's long and probably boring to all of you, but I wanted to document this phase/stage of his life! :)
As for the whole room time/playpen time/etc thing... let me just clarify that they are not all day activities or even back to back...they occur at different set times of the day. Playpen time is in the morning. We wake up, play together, he eats breakfast, then he goes to the playpen so I can eat and shower. We play some more, read books, etc and then it's nap time. After that nap it's the same exact thing except he does room time instead of playpen time after he eats lunch. It's good for our kiddos to know how to play by themselves and believe me, we get plenty of play time together in as well! Just wanted to clarify that! :)
So, after all that you must be wondering just what does the title of this blog have to do with all of that?!? Well, here is the connection... I have a few funny stories about Caden to share.
1) We purchased one of those little tub hats that you put on kid's heads so you can pour water on them and not get it in their eyes. We use it sometimes, but he's used to the water in his eyes now so that hat is more of a toy. You might remember my blog a week or so ago of him with his baseball hat and how proud he was...well this is the same thing in his tub hat that looks somewhat like a sombrero!
2) Today I was slightly distracted and Caden wondered off. Next thing I knew I heard splashing.... he had found the toilet. Gotta love it!
Okay, now for that video. Remember to go check out the other videos, too!
